Joe Herrera Quintana

Joe H. Quintana, Cochiti, is considered to be one of the most innovative and versatile Native Silversmiths. He learned to work with metal as a shipyard welder during World War II, and he became a successful artist upon his return to Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico. Quintana's unique designs, craftsmanship, and attention to detail have caputred the attention of many collectors and dealers, earning him a place among the great 20th century silversmiths. The Santa Fe Indian Market has instituted the Joe H. Quintana Memorial Award for Excellence in Traditional Jewelry in his honor. Joe's dynasty is continued today by his son Cippy Crazyhorse and grandson Waddie Crazyhorse.
